If you land at Tijuana and plan to cross through CBX, decide before leaving baggage reclaim. The entrance is inside that area. Volaris says that once you leave, you cannot return to use the bridge. Keep your boarding pass and crossing ticket accessible, and agree where your ride will meet you.

CBX is a pedestrian bridge between Tijuana airport and a terminal in San Diego. It does not turn your journey into a flight landing at San Diego airport. The distinction changes the pickup address, ground transport and family budget.

Use the route catalogue to compare airports, then check the actual booking. A route guide is not proof of a nonstop flight or availability on your date.

Two access windows, not queue-time promises

The CBX operator guide specifies access up to 24 hours before a TIJ departure and up to 2 hours after arrival for crossing toward San Diego. These are access limits, not guaranteed processing times.

Record the flight time, your planned arrival time and the relevant crossing deadline separately. If a flight changes, check both services with their providers. Do not assume the air ticket and bridge ticket change together. If a delay affects your crossing, speak to staff before leaving the arrivals area.

On arrival: bags, signs and the correct exit

Before travelling, save the boarding pass and CBX confirmation where you can open them offline. After landing, follow signs toward baggage reclaim and CBX. Check that you have every piece and that the tags match your name. Pressure to meet a waiting driver should not send you through the wrong exit.

If a checked bag is missing, contact the airline’s baggage staff and explain that you need to continue through CBX. Ask how to record the problem and coordinate recovery. Do not assume a later delivery will cross the border for you or that you can re-enter baggage reclaim once outside.

Give your driver the CBX terminal as the map destination and send an update after you complete the crossing. Avoid setting pickup solely from landing time. Landing, leaving the aircraft, collecting bags and reaching the meeting point are different stages.

From California: confirm the bag-drop process

Ask your airline where you will hand over checked bags and which receipt you will receive. A service described for Volaris does not establish that another operator follows the same procedure. Keep the booking handy and check your fare’s piece, weight and size allowance before leaving home.

Bridge access and permission to enter a country are separate checks. Consult official entry requirements for your nationality and circumstances; another family’s document list does not guarantee admission. For children or assistance, confirm who accompanies the traveller on each side and what service you have actually booked.

Budget and travel folder

In the trip budget, separate airfare, crossings per person and direction, transport for the group, parking and baggage. Use current quotes, recording currency and date. If someone drives out and returns alone, include that journey too; it is not a charge per airline passenger.

Save the following in your trip planner:

  1. TIJ airport and flight number in each direction.
  2. Crossing direction and confirmation for each traveller.
  3. Documents required to enter the relevant country.
  4. Drop-off or collection process for each bag.
  5. Exact pickup address and the driver’s contact details.
  6. Agreed alternative if the flight changes or you cannot use the bridge.

The TIJ airport guide helps you navigate the airport. This checklist covers the crossing and coordination between its two sides.

Frequently asked questions

Does a flight to TIJ land in San Diego?

No. TIJ is Tijuana. CBX lets you continue across a pedestrian bridge to a terminal in San Diego; the flight still lands in Tijuana.

Can I leave baggage reclaim and return to cross through CBX?

Volaris says you cannot return to use CBX once you leave that area. Choose the correct exit before leaving.

Does a CBX ticket include extra baggage?

Do not assume so. Check the purchased crossing service and the airfare’s baggage allowance separately.
